Texas Holdem

In Texas Hold'em, each poker player is dealt two cards that belong only to that player. Five community(or flop) cards are dealt face-up on the "board". All players in the game use these cards in conjunction with their own two cards to make the best possible five-card poker hand.

There are 3 main variations of Texas holdem: limit, pot limit or no limit.

Dealer Button

A disc called "the button" indicates which player is the nominal dealer for the current game. The player immediately to the left of the button posts the "small blind". The next player posts the "big blind" which is usually twice the small blind. Now each player is dealt two cards.

The Flop

Now three cards are dealt face up.These are community cards known as board cards or the "Flop". There is now a betting round with the person on left of the Button acting first with a call or raise.

The Turn

There is a fourth community card dealt on the board. It is known as the "Turn" card.Another betting round follows.

The River

A final community card is dealt. It is the "River" card.A final betting round completes the hand. The follows the Showdown where the winning hands are shown and the pot is given to the winning hand.
